Home Audio - Room Correction
Sound is recorded according to the intentions of the artist and
producer. However, how it will reach the listener is uncertain, due
to the broad array of listening rooms and loudspeakers used. Rooms
and loudspeakers inevitably distort the sound both in the frequency
domain and in the time domain.
By digitally optimizing the output from each speaker of the
audio system such that it is perfectly adjusted to the acoustical
behavior of the listening environment, a much more transparent and
true-to-the-source sound can be delivered.
Dirac offers a row of solutions for companies that want to
provide their customers with room correction. Calibration can
easily be done by the end consumer or an installer by using Dirac's
easy-to-use PC or Mac room correction calibration software. There
are implementations to run the coefficients either on one of many
common DSPs or directly through a PC, Mac, or media server.
Benefits of Dirac Live® for home audio:
- Increased musical clarity and voice intelligibility
- A deeper and tighter bass
- A restored sound stage
- Reduced listening fatigue
Technical highlights of Dirac Live® for home audio:
- True impulse response optimization
- Magnitude response correction
- Mixed phase technology
- Robust spatial algorithms
In terms of implementation the filters can be run on a DSP
(either integrated directly into the speaker or in a separate box),
from a PC or Mac computer using the proprietary Dirac Audio
Processor, or as a studio-plug-in in the formats of VST, RTAS or
AU.
