Dirac Research to develop next generation Active Noise Control methods

Dirac Research has been granted funding from the Swedish Research Council to carry out an industrial PhD project in active noise control for automotive use. The project is a collaboration between Dirac Research and the Signals and Systems Group at Uppsala University. The focus will be on developing the next generation of active noise control, by perfecting Dirac''s current methods that uses the car''s existing loudspeakers.

‘By using active noise management, car makers can reduce the amount of passive damping, thereby reducing weight and fuel consumption. Moreover, some methods for reduced fuel consumption introduce noise problems that cannot easily be overcome by passive means. The automotive industry therefore shows an increasing interest in active noise control, where loudspeakers produce “anti-noise”’, says Mathias Johansson, CEO and CTO at Dirac Research.

The Swedish Research Council is a government agency that provides funding for research of the highest scientific quality in all disciplinary domains. Besides research funding, the agency works with strategy, analysis, and research communication.

Dirac Research is a premier R&D company specializing in high-end digital sound optimization, room correction and sound field synthesis.
